London – British Cruiserweight boxer Richard Riakporhe will look to defend his WBA Intercontinental Title when he fights Chris Billam-Smith at The O2 on 20 July. Riakporhe who beat Tommy McCarthy back in March will again put his undefeated record to the test on the Dillian Whyte – Oscar Rivas undercard, a Sky Box Office pay per view event.
“It’s an opportunity for me to test myself again on the big stage,” commented Riakporhe. “It’s where I want to be performing and I’m grateful to be part of what promises to be a great night of boxing.”
“With each fight I’m learning and improving. This fight is against another tough opponent with a good undefeated record and so it’s a test I am relishing.”
Riakporhe himself has an amazing backstory having been stabbed as a kid at age 15. He recovered to undertake a University degree before turning professional. He now feels he has a big responsibility to do what he can to inspire the next generation through his own schools programme.
“It’s important to me and part of who I am to play a role to help educate these young people. I love going into schools throughout the UK to share my story.”
“I want my work outside of the ring as well as in it to help inspire these kids to make good choices that will determine their future.”
